Sugar and Spice, And Everything Nice?
Boeung Kak and Borei Keila community members held a cursing ceremony outside Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Dec. 31, 2012, accusing the judicial system of being unjust in sentencing Yorm Bopha to three years in jail. Community members threw salt, dollar bills, and chilis inside the court grounds to invoke a curse. Riot police on the scene donned masks to cover their faces. The action ended peacefully, when the community broke into song and returned home.
