Cooperation Committee for Cambodia and NGO Forum on Cambodia convened a two-day strategic multi-stakeholder dialogue in Phnom Penh on 29-30 August 2012.
The main objectives of the multi-stakeholder consultation are to:
- update participants on the global and regional aid and development effectiveness movement;
- strengthen partnership among development actors towards the principles of development effectiveness;
- update and share progress in building accountability and good governance in Cambodia; and
- share mutual understanding and perspectives between CSOs, development partners and government on Post Busan in Cambodia.
103 representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) from 24 provinces, representing NGOs, associations and informal groups gathered in Phnom Penh to discuss ways to promote governance and partnership for development effectiveness on August 29th 2012. The following day, CSOs met with and facilitated a multi-stakeholder dialogue with government and development partner (DP) representatives to discuss and reflect on CSO Key Asks and how to forge constructive and inclusive partnerships in order to support positive and sustainable development of Cambodia.
As a result, the Royal Government of Cambodia and development partners recognized and reasserted the important role of CSOs as a crucial force and essential contributor to the development of the country. The government and DPs were receptive to most of the CSO Key Asks and have collectively agreed to find strategic ways to positively respond to these in line with the recent commitments made at Busan, Accra and Paris. All those present agreed that an enabling environment and inclusive, meaningful partnerships are fundamental to achieving effective and strategic policies to advance the pace of development of Cambodia.
