This is his [Hun Sen’s] mistake in allowing tycoons to control their own private militias. Rewind to 1930-1945, Nazi Germany had a similar but different issue, the Sturm Abeilung SA Storm Troopers of the Nazi which grew too strong and was challenging the Official German Military. Hitler was that paranoid it had most of the entire SA leadership led by Ernest Rohm executed by the Schutstaffel (SS : Protection Guards in Khmer equivalent: German SS = Angkarek Adolf Hitler), an event called 'The Night of The Long Knives'. Eventually Brigade 70 and the PMBU were integrated to the official Cambodian Military, just like The German Angkarek Forces of the Waffen-SS. The government is being very careless indeed regarding the issue of unauthorized company militias in allowing them to carry military grade weapons, it’s also a direct insult to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and it's was this situation that led Hitler to support the German Military over the SA. No leadership can make it without the backing of the Official Armed Forces. The PM needs to think very seriously now that without the RCAF, Special Brigades 70th and the PMBU he wouldn’t last. The bearer of arms should always be the official army, not some private militia which goes against the constitution, unauthorized militias will cause unrest.
Within the German HQ there were lots of disenchanted High Ranking Officers such as Major-General Henning Von Tresckow and Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg who made changes to Operation Valkyrie, continuity of government. Much of the original concept was changed by Count C.V. Stauffenberg. Its real purpose now was, in an event of a successful assassination of Hitler, to free the German Military and Security Forces of their oath of loyalty to Hitler. I Hope this is also the case of our military. Already there are signs that some are frustrated about the PM not doing enough regarding force evictions. If stupidity persists this situation may occur in the future.
Last but not least, I wish for nothing but hope for our military where everyone must choose between serving against the invading Thai Army and putting up with fools and idiots back home robbing our own people. It’s really sad for these uniformed men, with their hands being forced.
